'A haunting'

That drop picks up the ghost
and shoves it there with things underground.

I can find a presence
if I try sleepwalking.
If I force the plaster until it bleeds
in a certain way.

There's that point in the night
picking at the wallpaper.
I can see someone
peeling back.

The ghost pinches,
becomes sentient
and loses grip.

FINDING THE GHOSTS
‘A haunting’ deals with histories and the uncovering of ghosts. With this project came a lot of ‘figuring out’ and much of the exhibited work documents the frustrations I’ve come across in making. Working with animations became a way to untie these frustrations through repetitive movements and playful imagery. It became a process of documenting the search for the histories of a space and I combined animation with fragmentary writings to explore this. I engaged with an ‘imagined reality’ of ghosts and colliding histories, and the work began to occupy a space of creatures and haunted houses. A narrative of digging and unravelling took place to find them and I will continue to work through these methods as my practice continues.
